Have you always wanted to write a novel but never seem to have had the time? If so, you might be inspired by listening to this morning’s speakers, Barbara Lorna Hudson Robin Stow and Hazel Townsend. Barbara has a language degree from Cambridge, has worked as a psychiatric social worker, a sex therapist and was a university lecturer and Fellow of Green Templeton College, Oxford. Although she had written many academic papers during her career, it was only when she took early retirement that she turned to writing fiction. Her novel Timed Out was published by Driven Press in April this year. Robin wrote his first novel after five years in the army and over thirty years as a Lloyd’s broker. Hazel retired early and gained a First Class Degree in Cultural Studies . One of the topics she studied was ‘Quakers and Conscientious Objection’. Living near Richmond Castle in North Yorkshire, she became interested in the ‘Richmond Sixteen’ – a group of COs that were incarcerated there during WWI. After graduating she wrote a fictionalised story based on her research. I Will Not Kill: What ever the Consequences was published in 2015.
