Jenny Barden, the author of Elizabethan adventures The Lost Duchess and Mistress of the Sea will be at The Beacon, Wantage, to help you access your inner storyteller.
In this masterclass, Barden will guide you through the process of research, plot structure and character development in a historical setting – and show how to weave real events and people into fictional stories.
From using period details to give authenticity, and writing convincing dialogue, to finding the right voice to bring your historical fiction to life, join Barden on an exciting journey into the art of transporting the reader back in time.
If you would like to bring along a few paragraphs of your writing for discussion, then please do so, though time constraints may mean that not all material will be considered.
Jenny Barden is an artist-turned-lawyer-turned-author who describes herself as obsessed with history since an encounter in infancy with a suit of armour at Tamworth Castle.
She has travelled widely throughout the Americas, and much of the inspiration for her first two novels has come from retracing the steps of early adventurers in the New World.
Barden is an active member of the Historical Novel Society, Romantic Novelists’ Association and Historical Writers’ Association. She also speaks regularly at libraries, festivals and literary events.
She has four children and now lives on a farm in Dorset with her long-suffering husband and an ever-increasing assortment of animals.
