Jean Burnett grew up in North West London and Hertfordshire. She studied at Exeter University and Cardiff, University of Wales. She lived for several years in the USA and briefly, in Mexico. After working at a variety of jobs from advertising copywriter to shop assistant, she now lives in Bristol and writes full time. After her children grew up, she sold her house and backpacked around the world for a year following in the footsteps of 19th century women travellers.
She self-published a book about her adventures, Vagabond Shoes. Who needs Mr Darcy? an affection spoof on the life and times of Pride and Prejudice’s Lydia Bennet Wickham, was published by Little, Brown in 2012.
