For long-standing festival supporters, Eliza Graham’s talk about her latest book The One I Was is not be missed; set in 1939 in our own beautiful Vale of the White Horse, a young German refugee arrives at a serene country house … such a contrast from the traumas and guilty secret he has left behind him – or has he?
Wednesday, October 29. 11:00am. The Beacon, Wantage. Tickets: £6
Eliza explores the way that experiences and their effects ripple through the generations, when she portrays that same Kindertransport child on his deathbed and he finally uncovers a mysterious thread that links him to his nurse who is likewise haunted by a guilty secret of her own.
Eliza Graham has been a long-standing friend of the festival, and will be well known to our audiences as a sensitive interviewer of novelists. She has written four adult novels, and the first in a series of young adult novels.
