Dinah Jefferies was born in Malaysia and moved to England when she was nearly nine. Her Eastern childhood held a special place in her imagination and was something she was able to revisit once she began writing novels in her sixties. Her first novel was set in Malaysia, the second “The Tea Planter’s Wife” in Sri Lanka, and it went on to be a Sunday Times number one bestseller, and her third, “The Silk Merchant’s Daughter”, was also in the Sunday Times top 10. “Before the Rains” is her fourth novel, set in Rajasthan. Dinah returns to South Asia annually to research each new novel.
